doctors getting away with murder in flordia

I am writing to ask for your support to revise Malpractice Statue Chapter 766. This law does not help protect your constituents, because it does not hold bad doctors and other health workers accountable. This law also does not give family members a peace of mind nor justice if the decease person is not married and does not have a child under the age of 26. I'm writing on behalf of my deceased mother, Christine Wright Thomas. On Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 6:37am, my siblings and I watched my mother lose her life in front of our eyes at her bedside. This was such a shock to her friends and family because her primary care physician Dr. Monica Walker and Columbia Hospital diagnosed her with a stomach virus and two days later she was dead.
My mother did all she could have done to seek medical professional help. The medical system failed my mother and now she is dead because she did not receive the proper care and diagnosis. If we cannot get help from our doctors, where are we supposed to seek proper medical treatment? No one should have to suffer this long when they pursued medical help several times.
What happened to my mother was an avoidable terrible tragedy; it has been very difficult for me to come to terms with the loss of my mother. I constantly question myself why this happened, was it because she was African American, was it because she appeared to be poor, was it because she did not have the right insurance plan or, was it because no one gave a damn? My mother did not die at home. She died in the very hands of the people who were supposed to help save her life.
My mother was a minister who had five beautiful children three boys and two girls, the six of us stuck together and we shared an unbreakable bond. She called us and prayed with us on a daily basis, she did her best to help everyone. If there was no one else in the world that you could count on, you could always call Christine and she would be there to lend anyone a helping hand. On the behalf of her I’m asking you to help me and my siblings to get justice for our beloved mother.
I may never know the real truth about what happened to my mother. Christine is another victim of our failed medical system. She was neglected and mistreated by a team of medical professionals who were supposed to take care of her. The very purpose of medical practitioners is to do their best to improve human health and avoid harm. Their patients’ well-being should be their highest priority, yet my mother sat in the waiting area for several hours while her health deteriorated and had to wait an additional 15 hours to have surgery. It is clear that she was no one’s priority.
Christine is not here today to tell her story so I am her voice. As long as there is breath in my body, I will seek justice for my mother, Christine Wright Thomas. If I have to write a thousand letters, I will. If I have to call a thousand people, I will. I will not stop until justice is served. This could have been your mother, your sister, your daughter, or your loved one. What would you do?
Too many Florida families have experienced the devastation of medical malpractice and the frustration of not being able to hold those responsible accountable. It is time to stop negligent doctors and protect your constituents by revising this law

Why is this important?
