MADD-Illinois has endorsed a bill that would allow people *convicted* of DUI four times to apply for drivers licenses. Does Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) endorse this position?
Why is this important?
If someone can't stop drinking and driving after three DUIs it seems obvious that s/he can't stop her/himself from drinking and driving.
If the rehabilitation regime in the Nekritz-Hasting bill is an iron clad guarantee the individual won't drink and drive, then let's apply it after the second or third DUI.
After four DUI *convictions* one should lose the privilege of driving for life.
Illinois has plenty of communities served by public transportation. People who can't control their drinking and driving should live there.
