Reject Donald Trump and JD Vance's anti-Boundary Waters platform!
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is threatened by toxic copper mining. This is America’s most visited wilderness, beloved for its solitude and unique accessibility to people of all backgrounds and abilities, and the cornerstone of Minnesota’s growing $9.9 billion outdoor recreation economy. Copper mining proposed in the headwaters threatens the greater 4.3 million acre ecosystem encompassing Voyageurs National Park, the Superior National Forest, and Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park. Not to mention, this is the sixth most critical region in the lower 48 to protect for climate resiliency.
We know that the plans laid out in Project 2025 and supported by former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance would spell disaster for public lands and the environment, including the Boundary Waters. At a July 27 campaign rally in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Trump promised to reverse the historic mining ban within the first 10 minutes of his being in office. Furthermore, Project 2025 — a sweeping policy agenda for a second Trump term by the right-wing Heritage Foundation and supported by many conservative candidates and Trump allies — specifically lists overturning the mining ban near the Boundary Waters.
Minnesotans and Americans of all backgrounds across the country want the Boundary Waters permanently protected. Polling shows that 70% of Minnesotans want to protect the Boundary Waters from sulfide-ore copper mining in the headwaters of Minnesota’s canoe country Wilderness.
We need the next president and vice president to do everything they can to make sure the Boundary Waters is protected for ever, for everyone. Add your name to the petition to reject Donald Trump and JD Vance's anti-Boundary Waters platform and demand our elected leaders protect the Boundary Waters!
Why is this important?
As Vice President, Kamala Harris has been an integral part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to conservation. In 2023, the Administration enacted the most significant protection of the Boundary Waters in 40 years!
As current Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz recognizes that the Boundary Waters is a very special place and the crown jewel of the upper Midwest, and he can back that up with many of his very own trips to Canoe Country. Under Governor Walz’s administration relevant agencies have followed the processes and laws, advancing state-level protections for the Wilderness.
Trump claims he will win Minnesota and thinks campaigning on this issue (opening the Boundary Waters region to copper mining) will help him, but he’s wrong. Minnesotans and Boundary Waters defenders all around the country understand what is at stake for Canoe Country and America’s wild places in 2024 and we are committing to work to elect Boundary Waters Champions at every level of government.

Former President Donald Trump has, and would again, reject science, the law, and overwhelming public support to open the Boundary Waters headwaters to toxic mining to benefit a giant Chilean mining company owned by the richest family in Chile.
The alarming right-wing policy blueprint for a second Trump term - called “Project 2025”- specifically lists overturning the mining ban near the Boundary Waters.
The fate of America's most visited wilderness area is in our hands. The decisions we make in this election will determine whether we protect or endanger the Boundary Waters. We must work to elect Boundary Waters Champions at all levels of government.
