Don't drain Texas dry: require fracking operations to re-use water

Although most of the water utilized in fracking cannot be recovered from the shale—it stays in the ground—there is no real reason that drillers can't be required to reuse water in the drilling process. Require frackers in Texas to reuse and recycle water for oil and gas drilling.

Why is this important?

The Texas Drought Project recognizes that Texas is moving to a period of much greater aridity, with increasing desertification, and that Texas farmers, ranchers and residents will suffer as the oil and gas industry tries to drain Texas dry. We realize that this is not the answer to the problems with shale fracking, but it's a necessary first step.
