To: The North Carolina State House, The North Carolina State Senate, and Governor Roy Cooper
Don't Drill Off Our Coasts!
Dear North Carolina leaders: Please oppose SB 76. Our coasts are too valuable to put them at risk from oil and gas development. Coastal communities depend on a healthy and beautiful coastline for their economic livelihood. We need to protect our coast for future generations.
Why is this important?
The state Senate has introduced a bill (SB 76), that instructs that Governor to negotiate with the federal government to open up our coast to oil and gas drilling. Allowing drilling would threaten our fragile coastal ecosystem, and put our tourist based coastal economy at risk. Imagine if a BP-like spill happened along the Outer Banks!
This bill also allows the state to start issuing fracking permits in August 2015, without another vote to lift the moratorium. Please join together to help tell our leadership to stop their rush to drill.
