To: Scott Peters, The California State House, The California State Senate, and Governor Gavin Newsom
Don't Frack California
Momentum is on our side. On Monday, three bills that would impose a moratorium on fracking came up for a crucial committee vote in the state legislature—and they passed! 3 MoveOn members made hundreds of phone calls on the day before the vote, and one of the swing votes—freshman legislator Al Muratsuchi—credited the phone calls from his constituents for his yes vote.
We can win this fight. This week, MoveOn members across the state are launching campaigns to pressure their local elected officials to support a ban on fracking. Can you join the effort and start a petition to Assembly Member Brian Maienschein—and other local elected officials—urging them to publicly support a fracking ban in California?

Why is this important?
An oil industry insider recently told Politico that if California—known as a progressive and Democratic state—moves forward with fracking, "it will be a lot harder to paint the practice as an extreme process that risks the health and safety of individuals."
Fracking—injecting massive amounts of water and toxic chemicals into the ground to reach otherwise inaccessible oil and gas—is an extreme process, with catastrophic results. Fracking threatens our water, our air, our farms, and our health—and contributes to global warming.
Don't Frack California. You can publicly support a fracking ban in California and we want you to do that!
