Don't let Congress gut Mueller's Russia investigation!
Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) s trying to use must-pass budget legislation to gut Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling. It's absurd, and ought to be rejected as totally out of line.
Congress must pass a clean spending bill that fully funds our government and does not obstruct Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia.
Congress must pass a clean spending bill that fully funds our government and does not obstruct Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia.
Why is this important?
One Member of Congress is trying to use the government funding process to attack Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether or not the President and his campaign team were involved in Russia’s attempts to interfere in our elections.
We can't let the rest of Congress go along with him.
Last week, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) introduced an amendment to a major spending bill that would end funding for Mueller's investigation after 180 days -- and prevent the probe from looking into anything that happened before Trump made a formal announcement for his campaign in July 2015.
The proposal cuts against our commitment to the rule of law -- 80% of Americans believe Mueller should be allowed to finish his investigation. And there are multiple bills before Congress with bipartisan support that would protect Mueller from presidential interference.
But Congress has a bad habit of rolling unrelated ideological proposals like this into must-pass legislation in order to push through their pet proposals. Now, Rep. DeSantis is trying to use the threat of a funding crisis to deny Americans the answers we deserve about Russian election meddling.
Our representatives in Congress have a duty to hold the executive branch accountable -- not abuse the legislative process to cover for him. Congress must pass a clean spending bill without ideological riders and does not obstruct or limit the scope of Special Counsel Mueller's probe.
