On Tuesday, a Texas Senate committee passed a bill (SB 1165) to block cities and towns protecting their residents from fracking and other polluting oil and gas operations. A similar bill (HB 40) is moving through the Texas House. The vote comes after Denton banned fracking last November—and would block every other Texas city and town from protecting their communities from dangerous and polluting fracking operations.
It's going to take a groundswell of public opposition to stop these reckless bills, which are a top priority for Big Oil.
Why is this important?
Fracking is dangerous to the earth and our health. I lived in a county were they were doing this and I could light my water on fire as it came out of the faucet. Reckless greed should not determine everything in our lives especially without giving us the power to protect ourselves.
