Don't punish the kids!
Don't punish the kids.... thousands of kids are separated from their fathers because of the choices the fathers made and find themselves incarcerated. They are then only allowed short weekly visits in which they can only sit at a table with their child. For older kids, this may be understood. but for young kids, they don't understand why dad can't come to the play mat to build a tower of blocks. Creating a bond with their children will only help them with the adjustment process when they are released. I want the governor of South Dakota to consider allowing State minimum security inmates to interact with their children. You allow these inmates to leave the facility all day long and work in the community, but at a visit they can't bounce a ball with their small child. Ohio has allowed dads to be dads and stopped punishing the kids and allow 2 1/2 hour father visits where they can play basketball, sit in the grass, see thier child run and giggle. These are inmates with short sentences who are allowed in the community already. Why can't they play with thier child? It's not the child's fault that dad broke the law.
Why is this important?
To allow for minimum state inmates monthly father visits so they can interact with their children. Where they can play ball, sit in the grass, build with blocks, and just interact with their children.
