Thousands of Children in Puerto Rico Could Suffer From Zika
As many as 50 pregnant women each day are becoming infected with the Zika virus in Puerto Rico, and "the island's response is in chaos" (New York Times, July 30, 2016). This is a national tragedy and the shame of our nation. We have the resources to protect our people and the politicians of America seem not to have a sense of urgency in addressing this infection!
We, the American people, are calling upon President Obama to immediately visit Puerto Rico, with Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and a congressional delegation. In Puerto Rico a state of emergency should be declared by President Obama. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell should declare a commitment to immediately passing a bill that would aid Puerto Rico and that would also establish a more rapid and strategic response to preventing spread of the virus in Florida and the mainland.

Why is this important?
It hurts my heart to think that thousands of Puerto Rican children could be born brain damaged and suffering from other maladies that Zika infections might bring. I am starting this petition because I am appalled that this great nation's political leaders seem to be asleep to the suffering of its citizens in Puerto Rico!
