Drexel University: Replace Diesel with Electric Buses #CleanAirCantWait

As university populations grow across the U.S., directors of transportation at many institutions have looked for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and integrate sustainable policies, while reducing costs.

A transition away from fossil-fueled diesel buses towards electric buses charged with renewable energy is not only possible -- but in many instances lower cost when considering the life cycle of operations and maintenance.

This fall 2017 at Drexel University, a student led project is researching and synthesizing the latest data to develop scenarios for our university to not only replace diesel buses with electric buses but to charge them with renewably generated electricity!

We believe that Drexel University can become a leader in climate mitigation and adaptation, and that starts with simple things like replacing polluting buses. Please consider supporting our petition to show just how much we care about clean air!

Why is this important?

Officials in Philadelphia have announced plans to use 100% renewable energy to power city properties by 2030, along with goals to cut greenhouse gas emissions from buildings and reduce energy use from the built environment.

The Municipal Energy Master Plan is an initiative to help Philadelphia meet the goals of the Paris Climate Accord, an agreement within the UN framework to combat greenhouse gas emissions.

Located in Philadelphia, Drexel University (DU) is a private institution that is in a unique position to demonstrate this new found commitment to a clean city. The fleet is relativley small and the postive impacts are huge! If it chooses to act as a climate leader DU will become the first institution in the Philadelphia area to operate an entirely electric bus fleet. #CleanAirCantWait #PointofPride
