Drop the False Hispanic/ Latino terminology
The term "Hispanic" and "Latino" are used incorrectly and creates a false ethnic grouping of people of many different backgrounds, and masks racism towards people of Native American background, Multiracial people, people of African ancestry, and Asians. The issues of immigration have little to do with Hispanics or Latin people of Southern European ancestry, and culture but to do with the people of Native American ancestry, and other people of color that are referred to as aliens or Hispanics in the USA. The Labeling of people by false names has a long term effect on how a majority treats a group of people. It is the same ideology that was used by Columbus when he referred to Native Americans as Indians, a term still used today because of a false belief by European Spanish and Italian sailors who believed they had reached India. The same Ideology superimposed the named Gypsy on Romani people in Europe because of the false belief that they were Egyptians. This ideology persists here in the USA, and now is used to lump together the diverse people of Ibero-America as a homogenous people despite the incredible diversity found in Ibero-America.
Why is this important?
The USA should stop using the term "Hispanic" and "Latino."
