Drought in the 'breadbasket' of the USA
Drought has been a huge concern for California, off and on, not just for decades, but for centuries. The population of CA is much higher than desert regions were ever designed to carry. Further, CA now feeds, through its many crops, vast numbers of people outside the state. It is irrational that we do not have a water plan that incentivizes the use of minimal water, i.e., minimal usage (residential-people per household, and commercial-based on the industry) is a certain rate, if you use above that you pay at a higher rate (scaled upward for how much over the minimum-required is used). With global warming making drought far more likely, we can no longer sustain life without such a plan. For the immediate time, please help mandate MANDATORY water-use reduction (for those using above a determined minimum amount). For the near future design and implement a law that has a pricing plan that gives people an incentive (a very STRONG incentive) to minimize water usage. Thank you.
Why is this important?
I have been concerned about water usage in California since I read Cadillac Desert over a decade ago. Now with the very serious drought looming it is time for not just Californians, but for all people to take action.
