Reject Corporate Democratic Incrementalism: Elect a House Speaker Who Prioritizes Accountability, Universal Healthcare, and Working People

We call on members of the U.S. House Democratic Caucus to select a Speaker of the House who will boldly lead on progressive priorities, reject corporate PAC dominance, and aggressively enforce legal accountability. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries' recent statements framing rule-of-law enforcement as "getting even" or "revenge" demonstrate a fundamental misreading of the American public’s demand for justice. Justice and prosecution of illegal acts are not vengeance—they are the foundation of a working democracy.

We need a Speaker who can address the cost-of-living crisis and defend constitutional boundaries simultaneously.

Why is this important?

Key Reasons for Action:

  1. Justice and Accountability Are Not "Revenge"

  2. Dismissing demands for oversight as "getting even" abdicates the House's constitutional duty. The American public is not seeking political retribution; we are demanding legal consequences for executive overreach, civil rights violations, and unlawful acts committed across government agencies, including ICE and high-ranking administration officials. A Speaker must be willing to use the full subpoena, oversight, and impeachment powers of Congress to enforce the rule of law.

  3. Reject Corporate Campaign Finance & Lobbyist Influence

  4. The American public needs leadership that represents working-class interests, not corporate donors or special interest political action committees (including AIPAC and other foreign-policy lobbying groups). House leadership must stand up to powerful moneyed interests that distort domestic and foreign policy priorities away from the will of voters.

  5. Healthcare is a Human Right

  6. Opposing single-payer healthcare (Medicare for All) protects private insurance profit margins at the expense of millions of uninsured and underinsured Americans. House leadership must champion real, structural reforms rather than incremental tweaks that preserve corporate healthcare profits.

  7. Leadership That Fights, Not Excuses

  8. Governing requires the courage to fight for structural change rather than defaulting to cautious incrementalism. We demand a Speaker of the House who will unreservedly advance a bold agenda for working people and hold bad actors accountable without reservation.

Closing Call to Action:

To the Members of the House Democratic Caucus: Do not default to corporate business-as-usual. Nominate and elect a Speaker of the House who will aggressively fight for corporate accountability, systemic healthcare reform, and strict enforcement of the law.
