To: Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, The Illinois State House, The Illinois State Senate, and Governor J.B. Pritzker

Elected, Not Appointed: Chicago Board of Education

Members of the Chicago Board of Education shall be an elected position, not appointed by the mayor.

Why is this important?

Chicago currently has an appointed Board of Education hand-picked by the mayor. The recent teachers strike in the city of Chicago has shown that the current board is interested in privatizing and dismantling public education. We need to elect and hold board members accountable through the democratic process.
