To: The Democratic Party
election results count
65,915,796 - the number of votes President Obama received in his 2012 election
806,795 – the number of votes Mitch McConnell received in his 2014 election
124,925 – the number of votes John Boehner received in his 2014 election
We're hearing a whole lot of pundits talking about the message of the Nov. 4 election. About how President Obama must acknowledge the resounding defeat of the democratic party and the rejection of his agenda for the country.
Let's take another quick look at those numbers above and let's also remember that Mitch McConnell and John Boehner each ran in only one republican leaning state or district.
And then perhaps it's time to ask me and the other 65,915,795 voters who chose President Obama's agenda over both Mitch McConnell's and John Boehner's whether we think it's time to support their republican agenda. I, for one, am still 100% in President Obama's corner.
We lost this mid-term election because we did not stand together behind a strong message conveying the successes of the last six years and projecting a clear vision of our plans for the future.
Maybe we democrats might want to take a page out of the republican playbook – they have their tea party – what if the various factions of the democratic party: the Moral Monday group, the Dreamers, Emily's List, the LGBT coalition, the NAACP, MoveOn, and the Occupy Wall Streeters.......were to join forces and become the WE party. Perhaps, if we came together as a powerful force with a a clear unifying message, we could be more successful in winning over voters who don't even realize that they are in agreement with the We (and not so much the tea) party – and that what we democrats hold dear - making sure everyone gets a fair shake economically, educationally, and in health care - guaranteeing equal rights for women, minorities, and the LGBT community - keeping government out of our bedrooms – is really what they hold dear too.
I'm signing on the the We party – care to join me?

Why is this important?
We Democrats must learn how to win.
