Emmision controls
Extend the same emission standards of privately owned vehicles to all commercial vehicles.
Why is this important?
Dear Governor Hickenlooper:
I was driving back home from the doctor’s office and ahead coming toward me was a cloud of smoke. It must be a car on fire, I thought. I wasn’t; it was a small truck with a billowing cloud of emission engulfing all the surrounding vehicles and heading in my direction.
Commercial vehicles are exempt from emissions control; ostensibly our state does not want to hurt business. Breathing dirty air is not hurting business, businesses can and do thrive when work is to be done. This means more businesses and more workers.
Our choice is whether we spend money on health care, treating respiratory problems (I am sure there are many other health problems caused by breathing in foul exhausts) or whether we choose to spend money on emission testing and pollution controls.
How can we even think we are creating a healthy business climate when we are creating a sickly citizenry, since businesses exist for all of its citizens how does this benefit business?
We all breathe in the same air. Isn’t it easier and less costly to transplant vehicle parts than it is to transplant lungs, hearts, and minds? It is less costly for all involved to control all emissions.
