There are millions of people who do not fit in with a perceived image of what a successful person looks like. Children and Adults have the right to be free from bullying and discrimination when they simply are not like the "others". Currently, groups of people are treated without respect in the media. It is as if "losers" are fair game and as if they don't have the same feelings as other people as they hear themselves used as the butt of countless jokes.
Why is this important?
There has been a great deal of progress in the media to refrain from writing humor about many hurtful jokes, but there is still a way to go. Children watch television. Children get the message it is okay to verbally and physically abuse the named victims.
