End "Black Thanksgiving"

This is not an attempt to voice the concerns of any political party or end Black Friday; this petition stands to voice the concern for employees and people who deserve time off to spend time with family and friends- A traditional American value.

Every year retail stores are opening earlier and earlier on Black Friday; so much so that opening hours have creeped into Thanksgiving day. JCPenny is opening on 6pm Thanksgiving, Sears is opening on 6pm, Macy's is opening 6pm Thanksgiving, Kohl's is also opening 6pm Thursday, and many more stores are forcing employees to come to work on Thanksgiving when they are suppose to be with family, or enjoying free time.

Often times employees do not get paid overtime and this in itself is unacceptable as employees have to deal with mass chaos. Overall cherished holidays like Thanksgiving are being taken away by consumerism and companies.

After spending only a few hours being "thankful" for what they have, people feel the need to drop everything and go shopping.

Is it really too much to ask anybody to wait until the next day?

This is in no way an effort to end Black Friday.
Signing this petition means that you want to end the black Friday creep, or for better wording: ban retail stores from opening ON Thanksgiving day. To end this "Black Thanksgiving" business would be to put an end to taking employees and people away from their families and leisure time.

America was built on certain qualities and morals that in no way encourage the destruction of freedom. Being forced to work retail on a holiday at the threat of losing a job is not right. Nor is it right to lose precious time with family and friends.

Why is this important?

Preserve traditional American values- Black Friday may be a tradition, but breaking up families during the holidays should never stand.

The people of U.S. deserve leisure time, and time to spend with family and friends on Thanksgiving. Retail companies should not force employees to come to work the day of Thanksgiving to tend to mass chaos when people are suppose to be spending time being grateful for what they have.
