End Cholera and Protect Haitians in the US
Fund and effectively support cholera elimination efforts in Haiti. Halt deportations and step up protection for Haitians in the US in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.
Why is this important?
In early November, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) started twice-weekly deportation flights to Haiti, despite Hurricane Matthew’s massive devastation just a few weeks earlier affecting two million Haitians. A broad variety of religious and political leaders have urged the President to stop the deportations, redesignate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and expand the unfairly limited Haitian Family Reunification Program.
Following the passage of Hurricane Matthew, the cholera epidemic is once again rapidly spreading throughout Haiti. The United Nations has finally begun accepting responsibility after it introduced the bacteria six years ago, but response plans remain woefully underfunded. On October 20, 27 Florida-based organizations and 24 other prominent Floridians urged US leadership in eradicating the epidemic and in compensating victims.
Urge the President and Congress to support these reforms of U.S. policy towards Haiti by signing our petition.
