END THE 30-HOUR WORK WEEK
"The Affordable Care Act has had unintended consequences for all part-time workers. This is due to a problematic section of the original legislation. According to the "30-Hour Rule," a full-time worker is defined as a worker who works a total of 30 hours in a 7 day week, meaning that employers are required to provide health insurance to any and all employees working over 30 hours or risk paying a fine. As a result, many employers are reducing hours to avoid complying with the rule."1
One union, Local 338 has been actively seeking resolutions. They have been meeting regularly with Senators because they recognize that this is an unfair burden on workers. According to Union 338,
"Unfortunately, the Republicans are once again a major obstacle to progress. The Republican Leadership has indicated that they have no intention of acting to help working Americans on this issue".1

Why is this important?
Obama Care has caused a devastating pay-cut to millions of part-time workers in the U.S. "According to the new health-care legislation, all businesses must pay FULL TIME HEALTH CARE to all employees who work 30 hours or more in a seven-day week."1 Normally, we were permitted to work up to 30 hours plus Sunday (Sunday was not counted as part of our work week). Personally, I work six days a week (including Sundays) and receive a weekly pay-check of or about 200 dollars and, as such, already live in poverty. This current legislation will force me and my co-workers to seek previously unsought public assistance, which should be distributed to those who are truly unable to work. This legislation is preventing millions of willing, able-bodied employees from working more than 30 hours per week. Most companies have cut each part-time employee to 28 hours or less per seven-day week, to avoid any fines. Sundays must not be included in our 30-hour work week limit.
