The war on drugs is a costly, ineffective program that diverts our tax dollars to jails and courthouses rather than schools and infrastructure. We need to revoke the mandatory minimum drug sentencing laws and start reinvesting in our communities.
Why is this important?
In light of the Annie Dookhan case, it has become clear that the drug war has a corrupting affect on our criminal justice system. I am proposing putting an end to the marshal laws associated with the drug war and change it to a war on addiction and mental illness.
