Since national elections can often overshadow the responsibilities of office holders to a point where restraint and self control are no longer in effect, I believe it's time to establish a limit on the length of time during which all candidates can conduct their campaign for office.
Why is this important?
It is, in my mind, ridiculous that we are paying elected officials to campaign through a significant portion of their term in office. I believe that the length of time that campaigns by incumbents and all other office seekers can be run should be severely limited by law to a reasonable period of 4 months or less.
