Ensuring Stricter Implementation for Bullying Policies in School

Despite recent efforts in raising awareness of the serious problem with bullying in schools, there is a large discrepancy in what is said and what is done. Bill 69, which has passed the House and is now in the Senate, is an amendment that will include dating violence in bullying policies. This is an exciting improvement in protecting our youth but there is still more progress to be made. This petition is raising awareness of this bill so it can pass the Senate however, it does not end there. Once the bill is passed it is imperative the schools are aware of this change and follow through with implementing it and the bullying policy itself.
Bullying is detrimental to youth's emotional health, school progress and in some cases physical health. Bullying can lead to depression, failing classes, binge drinking, suicide attempts and physical fighting. This is a prominent issue in our society and we need to show our schools we want our youth to be safe.
By signing this petition you will show your support for Kansas youth to your legislators and community members. Hopefully with enough signatures we can change the way our schools address bullying and we can keep our schools an enriching learning environment.

Why is this important?

We are asking the Senate to pass Bill 69 adding a clause about dating violence in the Kansas bullying policy for schools. We would also like to raise awareness of the lack of implementation of bullying policies in schools.
