"Entitlements" are paid for via FICA. FICA stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. It's an insurance pool we all pay into in the event we need it just like any other insurance. FICA neither lends nor takes away from our deficit one thin dime. Many who have no choice but to live off of SSI only collect about $680 a month now. Why cut those benefits? It makes more sense to increase the benefits which would put more money into the economy. The current "entitlements" are already little more than cruelty and conservatives want to take even that away.
Why is this important?
Paid for benefits aren't entitlements and don't effect our deficit.
