EPA Holding Tank Inspections for Boats on Lakes

Currently, any large boat on a lake in Massachusetts that has holding tanks may have the ability to accidentally leak, or be emptied on purpose, directly into a lake. All boats with holding tanks on a lake should be inspected by the EPA and bear a sticker indicating that they have been inspected and any former means of dumping into a lake are permanently sealed.

Why is this important?

In Massachusetts there are no laws for "Great Ponds" that require an environmental inspection and certification to ensure that all holding tanks on a boat have been permanently disconnected or sealed so that accidental leaking can not occur. New Hampshire has such a law, why not Massachusetts!
