Freedom of Speech, a cornerstone of our society, is written into the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. With few exceptions, people of all ranks may speak their piece without infringement by the government.
However, freedom speech does not come without consequences.
When an individual is elected or appointed to a governmental office they are voluntarily accepting a Position of Trust - a special Relationship of Trust with their constituency. It is not merely another job.
Deception, even if protected by the 1st Amendment, violates that Relationship of Trust. And that violation of Trust renders the individual unqualified for the Position demanding Trust.
Therefore, legislation (or executive order) needs to be enacted such that if anyone elected or appointed to office (or their staff) lies or materially deceives the Citizens of the United States, they have violated the Trust of Americans, have become Unqualified for the Position of Trust, and must be removed from office immediately.

Why is this important?
The proliferation of fact checking groups/activities demonstrates the explosion of questionable information being generated everywhere. Though the fact checking efforts are laudable, many/most times, when the information is found to be deceptive, the people that produced it are not held accountable. This petition addresses the issue of regaining our right to be able to Trust our elected officials.
