In response to the Charlottesville tragedy and systemic racism in this country, I propose that the federal or local government(s) fund creation of statues of Civil Rights heroes in proximity to Confederate flags or iconic Confederate statues.
Why is this important?
I propose that funding be allocated to erect statues in honor of Civil Rights icons and Native American heroes in proximity to Confederate icons, and in the capitol, and all urban centers. The awareness of how this country has prospered because of Slavery and the genocide of Native Americans is paramount. Marginalized peoples need to have the opportunity to honor their heroes and counteract the wave of emboldened aggression by Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists in this country.
