Establish gun-free zones

As a citizen and constituent of the United States, I am asking that you take a firm stand and make a positive change by restricting access to guns, making public spaces gun free zones, and thus saving lives. Public spaces, such as schools, parks, libraries, shopping malls, theaters, city streets and alike, should be declared gun free zones. It not enough to keep guns out of the hands of persons clearly identified as mentally unstable, and it is time to recognize that the mere presence of guns can trigger unexpected reactions from a variety of individuals, be they accidental or intentional.
Laws should be passed that will prohibit any unauthorized individual to possess or carry a firearm in a place that the person knows, or reasonably should know, is a public area. Such individual shall be punished as specified by law.
This does not apply to the possession of a firearm –
(i) On private property
(ii) To law enforcement personnel

Why is this important?

There is the presence of a group carrying guns openly in Gallup Park in Ann Arbor drinking and partying next to the children's playground.

In the past I have been affected by this issue - in a couple of near-fatal accidents with guns.
