In the week of April 6th, 2015, the Council of the City of Eureka, California, will consider returning the remainder of Indian Island in Humboldt Bay to the Wiyot Tribe. Indian Island is the site of one of the largest massacres of indigenous peoples in California 155 years ago. The Wiyot nation are still recovering the murders of most of the children, women and elders of their culture.
Why is this important?
It's time to give them back their land.
