Every night the evening news broadcasts pictures of Black men as criminals. This practice perpetrates an implicit bias and is no different from the police force that used pictures of Black men for target practice. Tell local media outlets to stop promoting black men as villains.
Why is this important?
Implicit bias is based on the idea that social behavior may not always be under a person’s conscious control. Much of our behavior is driven by stereotypes that operate automatically and therefore, unconsciously. The reinforcement of these stereotypes deepens the unconscious bias.
