Why is this important?
Another child's life. Gone while in custody of the United States Government. A teenager from Guatemala was being warehoused at one of the Southwest Key facilities — facilities where charges of child abuse have been raised repeatedly over the past year — and became very sick. He was dead a few days later. He had been in United States custody for 10 days.
He is the third child to die in federal custody over the last six months. Seven year old Jakelin Caal Maquin died in December. Eight year old Felipe Alonzo-Gomez died a couple of weeks later.
