To: The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate

Expel the Iran Letter 47

In light of the very real national security risk they have caused, and in order to restore faith in the trustworthiness of the US in international negotiations, we demand that the 47 members of Congress who wrote and signed the recent letter to the Iranian government be punished by immediate expulsion from Congress under Article 1, Section 5, clause 2 of the Constitution, according to the Congressional Research Service:

"A Member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her constitutional term by an “expulsion” from the Senate (if a Senator) or from the House of Representatives (if a Representative) upon a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the Members of that body present and voting.

While there are no specific grounds for an expulsion expressed in the Constitution, expulsion actions in both the House and the Senate have generally concerned cases of perceived disloyalty to the United States, or the conviction of a criminal statutory offense which involved abuse of one’s official position."

Why is this important?

There are serious consequences of the letter 47 Republican senators sent to the government of Iran:

“This kind of letter is unprecedented and undiplomatic. In truth, it told us that we cannot trust the United States.

It is a matter of national security to mitigate the harm that has been done and assure Iran that the US can be trusted.
