President Obama's recent changes to federal loan policies have undoubtedly helped, but they have not gone far enough. Such benefits as loan forgiveness after 20 years of regular payment and a repayment schedule proportioned to one's income must be extended to those who need them most--to low-income undergraduate students who will soon find themselves in a jobless economy. In order to do this, Obama and Congress must extend the recent student-loan changes to Federal Direct “Parent” Plus loans. Do not hesitate: livelihoods and the economy are at stake!
Why is this important?
President Obama's recent change to the policies concerning federal student loans has undoubtedly helped students, but it has not gone far enough. We must call on the president and Congress to extend the benefits granted concerning graduate plus and other similar loans to Federal Direct Plus or "Parent Plus" loans as well.
