Extending trail hours beyond dawn-to-dusk policy

The trail-user community would like Delaware State Parks to extend trail hours beyond the dawn-to-dusk policy. This will allow commuters and recreational users legal access to trails during night time hours.

Why is this important?

As daylight shortens, commuters and trail users have to find alternative routes that do not include Delaware State Parks in the fall, winter, and spring. The affordability of new lighting technologies is making it safer to commute or recreate during night time hours. My recreational opportunities are limited between September and April because I work an 8 to 5 job.

Reasons for signing

  • We are adults and should be allowed this opportunity.
  • In addition to the other benefits, increasing users in the park at night will deter crime. Criminals like uncrowded spaces....having valid trail users / commuters on these trails will make the parks safer at night.
  • Love our Gov! Trail riding at night is wonderful and, for some of us, a necessary part of our commute. With modern lights visibility is superb so there really is no safety issue from a lighting perspective. I've also found trail riders to be wonderfully tidy folk. Really hoping for this change. I came from Philadelphia and spent many beautiful winter nights in the Wissahickon.
