Extradite author Jens Soering to Germany for a fair hearing

German citizen Jens Soering has been in prison for 27 years for a crime he foolishly confessed to at age 20 to prevent his U.S. girl friend from being convicted of murdering her parents. No DNA or other evidence links him to the crime, and outgoing Virginia Governor Kaine had agreed to return him to Germany in 2009, but incoming Governor McDonnell, in an unprecedented move, rescinded Kaine's action.

Why is this important?

I and many others who have met Soering, read his books and reviewed the many articles about the case on his website believe strongly he should not have to spend the rest of his life in prison for a crime he did not commit.

Reasons for signing

  • I believe Jens is innocent and even if he knew of Elizabeth’s intentions to murder her parents I believe he has served enough time for that transgression.
  • This is a devastating case of injustice. Had this case occurred a decade later DNA evidence would have cleared Jens immediately. That same evidence proves he was not involved in the murders. Please let this man finish out his life in peace.
  • Reasonable doubt
