Facebook: Remove "Seen by" feature from group posts!

We, the undersigned, ask that you do the following out of concern for our privacy:

(1) remove the "seen by..." feature from group posts, or at least allow users to disable this feature both entirely and for particular groups or individuals from whom they want to hide their activity, and

(2) refrain from ever adding this feature to news feed posts.

Why is this important?

Facebook now shows everyone in a group who has seen each post in the group. This means that if you are in a group, someone in the same group (whether it's your ex, a romantic interest, or a creepy stranger) can track your online activity simply by checking which posts you read and at what times.

What's even scarier, when asked by TechCrunch if they would ever apply this feature to the news feed, Facebook responded saying that they were "not going to discuss what we might (or might not) do in the future."

We ask that Facebook either deactivate this feature, or give users a way to turn it off either entirely or for particular groups or individuals, and that they never apply it to news feed posts. This serious violation of privacy has the potential not only to ruin friendships, but could also prove dangerous in certain cases of domestic abuse, and must be stopped.
