Facebook: Voluntarily Suspend Political Ads 60 Days Prior to Elections
In the spirit of civic duty - and in light of Citizens United monetary influences along with non-consensual data mining by Cambridge Analytica - this petition asks that Facebook please voluntarily suspend the running and/or display of, in any form, any and all political ads from any and all sources for 60 days up to and including the days of US midterms and presidential elections.
Why is this important?
I've started this petition due to the realization that overturning Citizens United may be a long way off, so in the meantime, I've been thinking on ways to approach it from the grassroots level. Personally, it is my hope that voters rediscover legitimate news sources, the art of having real conversations to solve real problems, and that social media rediscovers its civic duty.
