To: Commission on Presidential Debates

Fact check BEFORE Presidential debates, not after.

Presidential candidates should be required to have all claims they plan to make during debate vetted prior to the debate. The audience will be immediately informed in real time when a candidate makes an unvetted statement.

Why is this important?

Our democracy requires citizens to evaluate candidates and then vote.

Citizens deserve to evaluate a presidential debate that is based on verifiable facts rather than spin, misinformation, or outright lies. Candidates should not get to score cheap debating points or audience applause lines based on untrue statements.
