Federal money for all schools' security
I am a teacher and I know full well the complete lack of security present in most and particularly elementary schools. The few guards present in schools are there to break-up fights not to protect the children. Most schools are easily entered and only guarded by nonunion untrained personnel on a temporary basis. Aren't out children our most valuable possessions? We collect them all together with no protection everyday. We teachers have been faced with people who come off the streets at all times of the day. I can count many times someone I do not know has just walked into my classroom. One recent time it was a threatening drunk individual who entered effortlessly in the middle of the afternoon. It was a room of small children, and all the female teachers became scared, and I realized how defenseless we were. This is nothing new. I have never been in a properly secured lower school and I am discussing many districts in NY. Our highschool has been invaded quite a few times as well, but the lack of money to use for security personnel has led us to have low- paid benefitless temps. Shouldn't the government be spending as much money protecting our schools, as they spend on checking the luggage at an airport?
Why is this important?
