World Cup fans are getting hit with a gut punch, with tickets costing more than ever before and prices that only continue to climb.
Now a multi-state investigation into whether FIFA flat-out misled fans over ticket pricing is underway.
Attorneys general in New York and New Jersey have launched a formal investigation into FIFA’s ticketing practices for the 2026 World Cup, alleging the organization “artificially inflated prices” and “misled fans,” including about the locations of the seats they were buying.

Why is this important?
This is nothing more than a cash grab. When initial prices leaked, they turned out to be the most expensive tickets in World Cup history, topping every comparable match in 2022, 2018, and beyond.
Fans spent hours stuck in online ticket queues with no idea what they’d ultimately be charged, or whether they’d even get tickets at all. When the prices finally came out—upwards of thousands of dollars—fans called it “extortionate” and “absolutely despicable.”
FIFA loves to call the World Cup “the people’s game,” but its actions have only demonstrated the opposite.
