Why is this important?
Trigger Warning: Sexual Violence, Incest, Child Abuse
Aviso de contenido: Violencia sexual, incesto, abuso infantil
On August 28, 2020, Zachary Simmons was accused by his sister, Antigone Simmons, of incest. Zachary Simmons committed acts of sexual violence against Antigone throughout her childhood. Antigone's testimony broke the silence on Zachary Simmons' sexual misconduct and has inspired dozens of Haverhill High School ("HHS") students and alumni to come forward on social media about Zachary Simmons’ abuse of power and pattern of predation over his nearly 20 years as a history teacher, sports coach, and after school clubs advisor.
The severity of these events has exposed not only Zachary Simmons’ misconduct, but also the complacency of both former and current HHS administrations, who have for decades swept complaints about Zachary Simmons under the rug and ignored his explicitly problematic behavior.
As of Monday, August 31, 2020, Zachary Simmons has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Shortly, Time's Up Haverhill will release a list of demands that will tackle the greater extent of abuse at Haverhill High School and will call on Haverhill's leaders to make systemic change. We believe that because of the exceptional nature of Zachary Simmons’ violations, we must first address this specific issue and bring this man to justice.
In addition to signing this petition, Time's Up Haverhill urges you to voice your concerns to Haverhill's leaders. Please find their contact information below:
