Fix Our NMLS Laws

I am writing in regards to the new SAFE Act which now incorporates the
NMLS as a third party regulatory entity. The issue I am having right now is
because of my past record, my originator’s license is in limbo. The DRE
only considers that because I had a felony 15 years ago I am not capable of
being an honest, forthright individual. I am imploring for some kind of
pardon or intercession so I can go on with my livelihood.

I have been a mortgage originator for over 10 years and I have many happy and satisfied customers. In fact, I have repeat clients who would definitely attest to my credibility and integrity. I will be 57 years old in December and I feel it’s a little bit late in the game to make a career move. Mortgage origination is my only source of income and I would be an obsolete candidate in today’s employment competition. Please help me keep in the line of work I know and do best.

P.S. There needs to be an addendum to this law (SAFE ACT) to give the California Department of Real Estate the authority to decide on a case by case situation who is good or bad.

Why is this important?

I want to have the SAFE ACT amended so that even loan originators who have had felonies past 7 years can get approved by their respective states. Make it a case by case situation so that each entity can determine on their own without the federal government mandating the individual is bad without understanding his rehabilitating efforts.
