FL Sunshine Law / Criminal Felony Penalties

The current FL Sunshine Law carries NO criminal penalties for "failure to involve or inform local citizens" of sweeping projects (like highway construction or demoltion) within their FL District. Since these projects directly affect property values & quality of life, it is essential that ALL government agencies & corporate entities be prosecuted as felonious criminals when they FAIL to involve or inform local citizens in district projects. Therefore, it is urgent that the FL Legislature revise and update the current FL Sunshine Law to include criminal penalties.

Why is this important?

East Orlando (Orange County) residents have been blindsided since 2010 by new expressway construction and demolition that has damaged homes, lowered property values, wasted $70 MILLION in taxpayer monies, and increased traffic gridlock. Prior to its 2010 inception, the local Expressway Authority gave NO warning or notice and held NO Public Meetings with area residents. This ongoing project will NOT end until 2014 or 2015 and represents a HUGE violation of the FL Sunshine Law -- but there are currently NO grounds for criminal prosecution.
