for Congressional Action to Label GMOs in Food

We call on the House Committee on Agriculture to bring to a hearing H.R. 3553, the Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act.

While opponents of GMO labeling, primarily represented by the biotech industry, claim such labeling would be costly, they do not deny that voluntary non-gmo type labeling seems to be getting the job done cost effectively.

Again, opponents of GMO labeling, primarily the biotech industry, claim foods with GMOs enjoy an unblemished track record of proven safety. However, with no post-market monitoring in the form of labeling, it is impossible to verify the veracity of their claims.

No known major news poll in the US since 2001 has had less than 85% in favor of labeling GMO foods. Please hearken to the will of the populace and hear this bill.

Why is this important?

H.R. 3553, the Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act has been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture. Typically, online alerts would ask us to contact our own reps for support. This way, we can address the committee Chair. We want this bill heard because we affirm the freedom to choose whether foods we are asked to consume contain GMOs or not. Will the US grant the freedom to label GMOs to any other country via the WTO, and not its own citizens?
