Journalists, Ian Urbina and Jo Craven McGinty produced a salient article published on the front cover of the National edition of the NEW YORK TIMES, Dec. 2, 2011 regarding the hidden perils of signing gas-well leases in Dimock, Pa. and previously unreported disregard for the population who are suffering from the toxic effects of the unsafe practices used by oil and gas companies in their headlong pursuit of quick profits. The land, water and air of the area is filling with poison. The next target is New York State. It is to the great credit and courage of the New York Times and these brave reporters that these practices are coming to the light of day. We must commend the Times for such brave adherence to the very bedrock of American freedoms...the freedom of the Press. Bravo!
Why is this important?
Recent Front Page of New York Times presented article in a series regarding unreported dangers of hydro-fracking for methane gas 2 miles under the surface of populated areas. In the "gold" rush to shatter the bedrock of Pennsylvania and New York to gather tiny pockets of gas, the industry is risking the destruction of human habitation above. Money cannot trump life...again.
