Fulfill the Social Security Fairness Act, Public Law No: 118-273
We and our families have been subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) penalties for well over four decades—the GPO (instituted in 1977) and the WEP (1983).
We call on the Social Security Administration (SSA) to promptly execute the Social Security Fairness Act (https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/82/all-actions), which became Public Law No: 118-273 on January 5, 2025. The SSA's expectation that implementing this could take more than a year is unacceptable.
Not only is it grossly unfair to deserving Social Security recipients, but neglecting to act quickly is also staggeringly expensive to the SSA, as the "back pay" requirement will only increase due to the law's effective date—months after December 2023. We ask you to act quickly so deserving American workers can finally realize the full breadth of their Social Security benefits—Qualifying, we earned the right to access the promise of Social Security afforded to all citizens during their senior years.

Why is this important?
Those affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) have suffered from the adverse effects of the penalties for over four decades, having been denied their rightfully earned Social Security benefits. They should not be penalized further by being forced to wait months, if not a year or more, for the bill to be executed.
