Fully Fund Maryland's Historically Black Universities

Stop the racially segregated underfunding of Maryland's four historically black universities. Fully fund scholarships, libraries, and research facilities at Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and fully fund their research, undergraduate, and post-graduate degree programs and faculty.

Why is this important?

Since 1865, Maryland established four historically black universities. However, the state underfunded these universities and segregated them from advanced academic, research, and post-graduate degree programs that Maryland fully funded at white universities. Maryland’s black universities operate with substandard libraries, inadequate research and technology facilities, insufficient faculty pay, insufficient funding for scholarships, and inadequate post-graduate degree programs. Despite a lawsuit by students and graduates, Governor Martin O'Malley refuses to fully fund Maryland's historically black universities.
