Add a 1% sales tax to tobacco & alcohol products. Earmark the revene to fund addiction treatment through community mental health centers such as Seven Counties Services, Comp Care, and the like.
Why is this important?
Add a 1% sales tax to tobacco & alcohol products. Earmark the revene to fund addiction treatment at facilities such as The Jefferson Alcohol & Drug Abuse Center (JADAC). The trend lately has been to fund facilities such as The Healing Place because its cheaper to do so, but they cannot provide a safe medically supervised detoxification, among other things. I work at JADAC & it saddens me to see this resource continually underfunded. The population we serve is poorly represented in the state legislature.
