Get styrofoam out of restaurants and other food service

Stop using Styrofoam in the food service industry. These products are being thrown away. Businesses aren't required to recycle and many recycling programs don't accept Styrofoam from consumers. Lets set guidelines that only compostable or recyclable products are used for food (ex. beverages, take out, plates).

Why is this important?

Our local single stream recycling program doesn't allow Styrofoam containers to be recycled. At public events, restaurants, even family gatherings I see so much of these products being thrown away. Tons of Styrofoam is being used as plates, cups and take out containers then put in landfills. Let's get foam out of food service. The food service industry now has paper and other compostable choices they could be using. Lets set some guidelines at a Federal level on what kinds of disposable products are being used. Styrofoam is a petroleum product. Using paper and recyclable materials is a green initiative that can help the United States be less petroleum dependent.
